It was another defeat for the Eagles at Selhurst Park but while there were a few positives including the return of key personnel, the visitors were given a helping hand by the officials adding to Palace woes.

POST GAME QUOTES
OLIVER GLASNER
“I saw many good things but we lost and haven’t won for 11 games. We played a good first half, then we had one big chance, couldn’t take it, made one big mistake and we were 1-0 down.
We conceded another goal and we lost completely our confidence and the structure and the game was over. But after 3-0 down and having a red card, we created three more chances that gives me confidence we will get this turned around and have a lot of confidence we will get this sorted.
I cannot blame anyone, it’s just a lack of confidence and it’s my job, together with the staff, to get the confidence back. I really liked the spirit, even when it was 3-1 there was a belief in the stadium and that gives me a lot of positivity. This is such a great group of players, such great character that’s why I really have a huge belief in this group.”
DEAN HENDERSON
“There are positive signs. We’ve got players coming back in and the energy this week was really good. Coming into this game, we expected more and obviously at this moment in time, football’s cruel sometimes. They make mistakes, we didn’t punish them. We made mistakes, we got punished.”

TEB VERDICT
The Eagles continue to fly down the table with many suggesting that a look over the shoulder will be needed in the coming weeks.
However, there were several positives in this defeat to Chelsea but luck was not on the side of the hosts. The return to the side of Ismaila Sarr and Daniel Munoz gave much better balance to the side.
Had the hosts taken their chances when they presented themselves, the result could have been a little different. This one is not on Oliver Glasner though, as he cannot legislate for the back pass from Jaydee Canvot that set up the opening goal, or his handball for the penalty, however harsh it may have been.
For balance, the officiating was very one sided. You do make your own luck but when Adam Wharton was sent off for two fouls in a matter of minutes when Moise Caicedo did not suffer the same fate in the first half, you do have to wonder. Oh yes, Darren England strikes again!
There was also a penalty shout for the hosts late on, similar to the one given against them, and what appeared to be an apparent stamp on Sarr by Pedro Neto, again, going unpunished.
You do make your own luck, and a Jean-Philippe Mateta one-on-one with the goalkeeper was missed once again by the Frenchman signally calls from several to sell the wantaway striker.
The fightback with ten men showed some battle and what turned out to be a consolation goal from Chris Richards could well have been more, but too little too late.
The next three games are key, but next weekend will be without Wharton after his foolish second booking. We did not think we would be looking ait the remainer of the season this way, but three more wins and Palace should be fine… Famous last words.
