Firm Belief At Everton That Points Deduction Will Be Reduced

5.20pm – Palace currently sit in 16th with 24 points, just 5 ahead of Everton who are in 18th. A win for the hosts will give them some real traction in the battle to stay up, while a win for Palace will create a much needed gap from the bottom three.

5.15pm – Everton midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure is back in training after a hamstring injury so could feature. Ben Godfrey is fit after a sickness bug but Arnaut Danjuma and Andre Gomes remain out with respective ankle and calf injuries.

5.10pm – Missing for Palace tonight are Ebere Eze, Michael Olise, Cheick Doucoure, Rob Holding, and Jesurun Rak-Sakyi. Marc Guehi is close to a return but unlikely to feature tonight.

5.05pm – Everton manager Sean Dyche has won seven Premier League matches against Palace, only winning more against Bournemouth (8). He’s unbeaten in seven against the Eagles (W4 D3) since a 2-0 defeat with Burnley in November 2019.

5.00pm – This will be Palace’s second successive Premier League match played on a Monday, after their 1-3 defeat to Chelsea last week. Indeed, it will be the Eagles’ 16th Monday fixture in the competition over the last four seasons (2020-21 to 2023-24), at least two more than any other club.

4.55pm – Palace have lost their last three away Premier League matches, shipping 11 goals in these games. The Eagles haven’t lost more consecutively since losing their final four away games in the 2019-20 season.

Eagles Head To Goodison Needing To Keep Hosts At Arms Length

4.40pm – Comments from Steve Parish on Roy’s departure;

“Roy has a special place in Palace history and will never be forgotten. After four years in which he led the club to maintaining Premier League status season after season, he once again joined us nearly a year ago to steady the ship, and worked wonders. That he then agreed to continue in the summer speaks volumes about his commitment to our club. Quite simply, we owe our continued Premier League status to Roy.

I would like to thank Roy enormously for his service and wish him the very best for the future; it’s fair to say Roy has the keys to Selhurst Park and will always be welcomed back.

On a personal note I would also like to thank Roy for his support, his professionalism and his friendship. He’s been the manager for half of the time we’ve been in the Premier League, I’ve enjoyed working with him and learning from him immensely.”

4.35pm – It is expected that former Eintracht Frankfurt boss Oliver Glasner will be announced as Hodgson’s successor after the crucial game with Everton this evening.

4.30pm – Roy has managed 200 games in charge of the club and has been a brilliant servant. We would like to thank him for his efforts and wish him all the best for what we hope will be his retirement. He fully deserves to start taking it easy with his feet up!

4.25pm – “My thanks and respect also to the current squad of players who have been a pleasure to work with – they are a credit to the club and themselves. I am certain that our fans will continue to give their full support to the team for the remainder of this season and beyond. I am confident that the season will finish well and I wish the team every success in the weeks, months and seasons to come.” – Roy Hodgson

4.20pm“This club is very special and means so much to me and has played a big part in my footballing life. I have fully enjoyed my time here across six seasons, as it has given me the chance to work with top class players and staff doing what I love every day.” – Roy Hodgson

4.15pm – The club have shared a statement from Roy on the official website and we are going to share some snippets from it.

4.10pm – The club have confirmed that Roy is now out of hospital and doing well. Paddy McCarthy and Ray Lewington will lead the team tonight at Goodison Park.

4.05pm – Well, we start with the breaking news from the club this afternoon. Roy Hodgson has stepped down from his position as manager.
