The next instalment of the South London derby sees the two clubs pitted against each other at Selhurst Park, but this time in the League Cup.
We all remember the events of last season, but more importantly, the fact that the Eagles went on to win the FA Cup after a fifth round victory over the neighbours.
While that is history, there is no getting away from the fact that Millwall now take on the FA Cup holders who are looking to challenge on four fronts this campaign.
The Eagles will be slightly frustrated having not been able to crack a stubborn Sunderland side in the Premier League at the weekend, but glimpses of what Yeremy Pino and Christantu Uche can offer the team going forward as well as continuing this long unbeaten run are all positives.
Meanwhile, the other South London derby took place at the weekend with Millwall making the short trip to the Valley to take on Charlton Athletic in the Championship. It was a tightly fought contest in which the points were shared. The Lions sit in 13th in the table with two wins from the five games played so far this season.
Much will depend on how seriously the two managers will take this competition, and while Oliver Glasner has always opted for strong sides in all competitions, that is likely to be tempered by what has been a busy start to the season which has included Conference League qualification.
Jean-Philippe Mateta was very disappointing at the weekend and looked lethargic throughout, so could be lined up for a rest for this fixture along with potentially Marc Guehi. Having said that, with injuries to Adam Wharton and Ismaila Sarr, there are not a huge amount of options available until those two players return as well as Eddie Nketiah who is nearing contention against West Ham at the weekend.
It is very likely that the exciting Pino and Uche will start this game, to really show what they can do, but they both look to be excellent additions regardless of what fans thought about the summer transfer window. These are two players that significantly improve the team following the departure of Ebere Eze.
