TEB VERDICT

While it was a disappointment to lose the opening game of the season, there is plenty to work on in the coming weeks and there will be improvements but fitness wise, the cohesion and in front of goal.

You must think that having so many international players in action across the summer, where they played or not, none of them had a real break and tiredness will creep in. That looked very much the case with the likes of Mateta, Guehi and Wharton.

However, for all the good play Palace showed, they did not have any luck with the disallowed goals and the winner for the hosts that was deflected several times before it fell at the feet of the striker.

Certainly nothing to worry about and we will see improvements as the weeks pass as we integrate the new signings.

POST GAME QUOTES

OLIVER GLASNER

“Very disappointed, especially with how the game was going. The referee whistled no goal, a tight offside was called, their winner was twice deflected, it is very disappointing. Many things we did very well but we also have to be critical and we conceded too many goals. We have to analyse but we created many situations where we could have scored. Many things were positive but if you lose IT is a negative.”

EBERECHI EZE

“It’s one of those games that if you get one then you continue scoring. we couldn’t get the second goal. They’re a good team as well and they made it difficult for us. The referee said he blew too early and he made a mistake. Fair enough, he made a mistake. As he said, it’s a mistake. Listen, we had so many chances to score, especially me. We move on to the next one. If we play how we played today and create chances then we’ll beat teams. We have to work on the counter-attack but we’ll come good.”

THOMAS FRANK

“Very, very happy, it’s remarkable the feeling you feel after a win. One of the reasons why I’m very happy is it’s the opening game of the season. Palace are a very good team and are very difficult to play against. It was an even game that we just edged. We really worked hard in the tough moments.

I think we showed in the first two seasons that we had the skillset to hold on to a game and get over the line. We struggled last season. In the second part of the first half, we were better.”

  1. Disappointing considering the quality of our squad and the opponent. Mateta should’ve probably came on for the last 30 minutes as opposed to starting. Kamada looked to struggle with the speed of the Premier League. Defensively we left huge spaces to exploit on the counter. But we still had a chance to get a point. Poor overall but hoping to win at home against West Ham! Up the Palace!
