Deadline Day: Palace to target three incomings

As the end of the transfer window rapidly approaches, there is still work to be done in SE25 as Steve Parish and Dougie Freedman do all they can to strengthen Roy Hodgson’s talented squad for the remainder of the season.

Deadline Day could prove to be extremely busy at Selhurst Park as the Crystal Palace hierarchy targets three incomings before the window slams shut at eleven o’clock on Thursday.

Adam Wharton is close to joining Crystal Palace after completing the second half of his medical, with just the paperwork formalities and media duties remaining for the midfielder before he completes his £22 million move to Selhurst Park, signing a four-and-a-half-year deal with the option of a further year.

Additionally, Crystal Palace would like to add some attacking reinforcements to the squad, with a left-winger and a striker being extremely high on the list.

The Eagles Beak understand that both Maxwel Cornet and Chuba Akpom are options Crystal Palace are exploring ahead of tomorrow’s transfer deadline. The club also have long-standing interest in Iliman Ndiaye; however, a move ahead of the deadline would be extremely difficult.

Cornet would provide much-needed left-back cover while also being a capable attacking option for Roy Hodgson’s side. While Akpom would offer stronger depth to Palace’s attack. Palace still have both of their loan spots available.

The South London club may also be forced into some reactionary business should a suitable offer come in for Jean-Phillipe Mateta (who is attracting interest from numerous clubs on the continent) or Sam Johnstone, who could move to Nottingham Forest with the Reds plotting a £15 million bid for England Number two.

It sets up to be an extremely busy day in South London tomorrow, with many twists and turns ahead.
