Everton End FA Cup Hopes For Palace With Replay Defeat

Palace ended up paying the price for not taking advantage in the first game at Selhurst with an FA Cup exit courtesy of an excellent free kick at the end of the first half.

TEB VERDICT

The Eagles exit the FA Cup at the third round stage after a dreary replay that they only really showed any interest with a late flurry with time running out.

Palace are in real danger of becoming another side like Stoke City by making up the numbers in the Premier League and showing very little interest in making any progress in cup competitions. Understandably, this has fans feeling plenty of apathy towards the club, owners and management at the moment with very little to look forward for the rest of the season other than what appears to what will hopefully be survival.

This was a tight yet drab affair that could have gone either way, but in a repeat of the first game at Selhurst, the Eagles showed very little until it was too late. Perhaps on another night they could have had a bit of luck with a flurry of efforts, but you make your own luck in this game.

Right now, there is a real feeling that we look very average and rudderless without any clue what direct we are about to take. Something has to change to get fans back on side and while this cup defeat was a narrow one, there appears to be a real lack of quality and spark to grab control of games and force victories rather than defeats.

POST GAME QUOTES

ROY HODGSON

“If I was a fan, I wouldn’t have wanted to see Eze taken off eithe. But we play at 12:30pm on Saturday and we need people like Eze who is one of our very best players. I would have loved all of my players to play 95 minutes but unfortunately we decided, in order to protect as many players as we can, that we would replace them with players who also deserved a chance to play.”
