ONE TO WATCH

PHILIPPE COUTINHO

FORMER CLUBS – Vasco de Gama, Inter Milan, Espanyol (loan), Liverpool, Barcelona, Bayern Munich (loan)

The Brazilian international has had his loan spell at Villa Park made permanent this week in a deal just shy of £49million from Spanish giants Barcelona. In his loan spell he made 16 appearances for Villa and scored 4 goals. The 29 year old has 67 full international caps for Brazil, scoring 20 goals.

KEY CLASH

WILL HUGHES v DOUGLAS LUIZ

Following a solid performance against his former employers last weekend, Hughes will be looking to follow that up with more of the same against Villa. He will likely be up against Brazilian midfielder Luiz who grabbed a goal in the midweek defeat to Liverpool.

PRE-MATCH FACTS

Wilfried Zaha has scored 5 match winning goals in the league this season, including each of his last 2. No player has ever scored more winners in a single campaign for Palace.

Villa won the reverse fixture against Palace 2-1 in November. They have not done the league double over the Eagles since 1980/81, the season they last won the top-flight title.

Palace have conceded a league-low 40% of their league goals in the second half of matches this season (17/42). Only the top two of Manchester City and Liverpool have conceded fewer after half-time than Patrick Vieira’s side (17).

Villa striker Danny Ings has scored 5 goals in his last 6 league starts against Palace – against no side has he netted more often in the top flight than he has against the Eagles (5).

DID YOU KNOW?

Villa are one of only seven clubs to have played in every Premier League season. Arsenal, Chelsea, Everton, Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are the other six.

PREDICTION

With the way both sides play their football, there could be some goals in this one while having one thing in common, finishing in the top ten. There will be an element of freedom for the players now the pressure is effectively off but with the reward money different for each position in the league, all teams will want to finish as high as possible. We are not bold enough to predict Palace nicking all three points here so we will play safe and take a point.

FINAL SCORE: 2-2

BETTING ODDS

  • Home – 11/10
  • Draw – 23/10
  • Away – 13/5
  • Both teams to score – 3/4
