TEB VERDICT
A performance that arguably deserved more but a defensive mistake handed the hosts the win from the spot. The second defeat in a row against sides we had hoped to get points out of will now show the true metal of this squad and indeed Patrick Vieira. It was a better showing than that against Villa on Saturday but was not enough to get any reward. Things could have been much different had Benteke converted a great chance but he headed wide. That is the key, chances were created, just not converted. There still needs to be more work on the training ground for set pieces but a brief cameo from Hughes suggests we could have our replacement for McArthur in midfield.

POST GAME QUOTES
PATRICK VIEIRA – “It happened on the other side a couple of games ago and we have to deal with it, outside of the situation at the end we are a little bit disappointed, we should create a little bit more chances and didn’t make the right decisions. I really believe we were the better team tonight. We don’t have time to feel sorry for ourselves, we just have to analyse how we create chances and how we can improve our last pass and work in the final thirty yards.
We had the best chances in the final 10/15 minutes and didn’t take them, so you leave the door open. The details make a difference, and the detail today is we didn’t score that first goal and got punished. We knew the season would be long and we would have some ups and downs. It is important to stick together and work even harder. We showed some positives.”
MARCELO BIELSA – “After the goal there were still five minutes to play. Only at the end did we feel the win was ours. We haven’t taken many points so far this season. Every game we see as an opportunity to balance this out. The opposing team had developed their play very well and it was very difficult to keep that clean sheet. To have won the previous game always helps to prepare for the next one. Sometimes a win facilitates the next one.”
