The football scarf has been the one constant throughout the ever changing world of the game we love.
Many fans still go to games with their scarf in hand or around the neck, including myself. It is all part of the match day ritual.
While it has been an ever present, the football scarf has evolved into so many guises. Not just one for a club, there are scarves for individual players, the travesty that is the half and half and it has even found its way into horse racing in support of top race horses.
Fans across Europe continue to use the scarf as part of their game experience. The majority of Bundesliga games have displays which include the holding up of the scarf stretched between two hands or the swinging of the scarf above their heads.
Both provide a quite remarkable display and an old school one going back to the days when everyone carried or wore one to a game instead of a replica jersey.
It is for this reason that we think that Palace fans should adopt this old school display for one game only. Who knows, it might happen to catch on. Again.
The club has had a ‘Bring A Scarf To Palace day’ before, a home game against Blackpool a few years back if memory serves and it is certainly about time it was done again especially with a packed out Selhurst Park and in the Premier League.
Initial communication across social media has shown us that it is something that fans may just get behind. So with that in mind, we encourage all Palace fans to bring a scarf to to the home game against Hull City on Saturday 25th April if of course you do not do so already. The day will be known as Bring A Scarf To Palace Day.
The kick off is the traditional 3pm kick off so there will be no better time for an old school showing of scarfs before the game all across the ground and not just restricted to Holmesdale end. Join us, bring you scarf and be part of a display to create a sea of red and blue.
Palace are already strong favourites to beat Hull City in this Premier League game at Selhurst Park and can backed with a Betfair free bet. An old school atmosphere will only spur the players on to make sure that happens.
