Fresh off the back of ending the long run of games without a win, the Eagles host Burnley in a midweek fixture under the lights.
Ahead of the game, we had a chat with Dan from Turf Moorhouse for views on the season so far, the upcoming match, and much more…
TEB – How do you feel the season has been for Burnley thus far?
TM – It’s been horrendous. We started with so much optimism after having an outstanding defensive record in the Championship and yet we’ve defensively been the worst I’ve ever seen us. We have a board who have a reluctance to do the right thing and it’s become toxic at Turf Moor.
TEB – Is Scott Parker still the man to take the club forward?
TM – Nope, no, not at all, definitely not. The man is out of his depth. Bournemouth and Fulham fans warned us of his managerial deficiency and how he just sucks the talent out of a team. It’s been evident as hell this campaign and I amongst others want him sacked.
TEB – Was any business needed in January?
TM – We brought in James Ward-Prowse from fellow strugglers, West Ham on a loan deal. That was it…. Pathetic, absolutely pathetic. We’ve needed a decent winger, a goal scorer and yet we bring one midfielder in since the loss of Josh Cullen to injury and sod all else. Terrible business!
TEB – What is your view of the January Transfer Window? Should it be scrapped?
TM – I’m sort of on the fence with this question as I quite like the transfer merry-go-round but all it does is favour the big teams. They see you over achieving lets say, and January comes round and they poach your best players, it can kill clubs. I don’t mind it but I wouldn’t mind if they stopped. Maybe just emergency loans allowed or something.
TEB – Who is your player of the season so far for Burnley?
TM – I wouldn’t bother even giving that award to a player in this nightmare of a season. There’s been some standout performances but nothing in terms of one, out and out candidate… If I had to give a name, then I’ll go with our goalkeeper Martin Dúbravka, as score lines would be ten times worse without his level of shot-stopping.
TEB – Do you feel there is still a chance Burnley can escape relegation this season?
TM – Hahahahaha! Nope… Plain and simple!
TEB – Thoughts on the game against Palace and final score prediction?
TM – You guys are fresh from a win against your rivals, Brighton and I see nothing but a win for you. Tactically, we are all over the place. If you can find a statistic against your club, just like West Ham not having a clean sheet since mid-August or Fulham not beating us at Turf Moor for 74 years. If or when we lose this game, we will match our worst EVER record for games without a win (17). Similar to our last game, I think you beat us 2-0.
TEB – And finally, your prediction for title winners and the three relegated teams?
TM – It is Arsenal’s too lose. This could be the year that the bridesmaid becomes the bride. Arteta has them playing phenomenally, so I don’t see City catching them but it’s happened before. There’s definitely a bottom two, which is ourselves and Wolves. I’m resigned to relegation AGAIN and well, Wolves have just not been in it either. I think the last spot is between West Ham, Forest and don’t rule out Spurs. Be interesting if that happens!
