You wait a while for a major trophy, and then two come along in succession. Some may scoff at the Community Shield but it is the first silverware of the new season, and it was the Eagles that returned to South London with it for the very first time to accompany the FA Cup.

POST GAME QUOTES
OLIVER GLASNER
“I have to give big credit to the players for this win, we came back and were able to decide the game on penalties. We were on the same level as Liverpool and it was a big performance, I’m proud of the team. We know what we can do and how we can create chances. Things have developed over 18 months and the players are really starting to believe in what we are doing. I knew we could score at least two goals.”
DEAN HENDERSON
“These emotions are fantastic. You’d think obviously they were 2-1 up and we were out the game, but the lads stuck by it. The manager said we’d get a chance in the second half on transitions, we did. We stuck by it, defended great, and we deserved that in the end. I love it, I love the big moments, I love being in that pressure moment. I really enjoyed that today, the homework we did for the penalties was great, so thanks to everyone behind the scenes that helped me with that.”
ARNE SLOT
“We faced a good team. They made it difficult for us last season and they did today. We were able to create more than we usually do against teams that it low. But if you are conceding two goals it is too much, especially if you take penalties like we did.”

TEB VERDICT
There is no stopping this group of players who have added to their FA Cup triumph by kicking off the new campaign with adding the Community Shield to the trophy cabinet.
Forget the summer of discontent around the off the pitch battles, this was a hard-earned victory against the newly crowned champions of England at Wembley Stadium.
That is now three visits to Wembley in 2025, three victories and two trophies.
Oliver Glasner and his management team have done a quite fantastic job with this group of players by instilling a level of belief that has rarely been seen at the club.
This was an impression all round team performance that secured more silverware, with call outs for Dean Henderson for the penalty saves, Jean-Phillipe Mateta for scoring from the spot after missing in the FA Cup Final, Adam Wharton, Will Hughes and Ismaila Sarr.
Here’s hoping that the start to the Premier League season is better than the last, and if this is anything to go by, we are raring to go.
