With a number of changes to the starting eleven, and a valiant showing against Chelsea, the Eagles hopes of any points were seen off ultimately by some quality. Here is all the post match reaction…
LIVE UPDATES
…
12.05am – That is it from us, thank you for joining us. We will be back with build up to the game at Goodison Park next Monday along with all the usual post match reaction.
12.00am – Before we head off, we can tell you that our post match review is now online.
Palace Defeated By Chelsea Again Despite Strong First Half
11.55pm – The victory puts Chelsea into 10th place in the Premier League with 34 points from 24 games played. Palace are 15th with 24 points from 24 games.
11.50pm – The most dribbles in the game were by Malo Gusto and Noni Madueke (2).
11.45pm – The most tackles made in the game was by Palace’s full debutant Adam Wharton (7)
11.40pm – Players with the most shots were Matheus Franca, Jefferson Lerma, Cole Palmer, and Conor Gallagher (3).
11.35pm – The Who Scored man of the match was Conor Gallagher with a rating of 9.0.
11.30pm – If you missed the banners from the Holmesdale Fanatics tonight, they read – ‘Weak Cub Culture And Direction, Supporters Ignored And Taken For Granted, Weak Transfer Policy, Youth Scapegoated, Souless Light Shows, Tifos Banned, Banners Removed For LED Advertising’.
11.25pm – How about the new boys? Well, an it is fantastic to see an overlapping full back so plenty more to come from Daniel Munoz. Matheus Franca will improve with game time but a very good showing in this one. Meanwhile, Adam Wharton is a bit good, isn’t he? Pretty sure he will become a star. Good to see Naouirou Ahamada get minutes off the bench as well.
11.20pm – Very good performances from Jefferson Lerma and Jean-Philippe Mateta, and what a goal from the Colombian.
11.15pm – Post match review article being typed up right now, but overall feeling is that the Eagles were rather unlucky tonight.
11.05pm – In terms of the statistics, Chelsea had 77% possession and had 14 shots to Palace’s 13.
10.58pm – “I am not concerned we are going to be relegated and the way the players played tonight, if you add the quality to that, I don’t think we need to be too concerned about relegation. We are not complacent about it but I believe in the team and players and believe they will pull us through.” – Roy Hodgson
10.57pm – “I am confident we can stay up. At the moment we are playing without three or four of our most experienced and quality players and they won’t be out until the end of the season.” – Roy Hodgson
10.54pm – “I can only hope that the fans are realistic. We have injury problems and we have some young players making debuts and finding their way in the game. I would like to think they take those things into consideration. There are still 14 matches left in the season. I don’t know what the attitudes are going to be.” – Roy Hodgson
10.53pm – “From the way the fans were it seems they thought the same. Their support was really good. We shot ourselves in the foot to a certain extent. Our lead lasted one minute into the second half. I think we were value for the 1-1. The third goal for them was the match winner.” – Roy Hodgson
10.51pm -“I feel extremely sorry for them because to go home and sleep on that defeat is going to be very tough for everybody. The fans were very good throughout. They must be gutted because like me at 85 minutes I was not thinking we are going to lose this game. I thought we were at least coming away with a point.” – Roy Hodgson
10.49pm – “We had our share of chances in the second half and they were not cutting through us. You know with the quality of players they have it is going to be a tough ask defensively but I thought our players stood up and defended as well as they possibly could.” – Roy Hodgson
10.47pm – “We just want to build our confidence and realise we need to be more consistent. We used two strikers in between the centre back and the full back. We put Gusto and Chilwell higher and moved the ball quicker with Enzo in a number 10 role. It helped us score.” – Mauricio Pochettino
10.45pm – “We were flat in the first 45 minutes, very disappointing. We need to react to the game. We need to avoid that and start a game like this so flat. Maybe there was a foul when we conceded. We started the second half really well and we scored. It was a tough game but I’m so pleased.” – Mauricio Pochettino
10.44pm – “It led to an aggravated defeat but I don’t think that is a fair reflection on the way the game was played. I think we deserved to come off with at least one point.” – Roy Hodgson
10.43pm – “We didn’t make that many errors and our goalkeeper was not exactly peppered with shots. The third goal is a nail in the coffin but when you are 2-1 down with a few minutes to go all teams do the same and throw everybody forward hoping a ball will bounce kindly for an equaliser.” – Roy Hodgson
10.42pm – “It was extremely cruel but the game is about goals and unfortunately we made mistakes which led to goals and I thought it was harsh because our defending was good.” – Roy Hodgson
10.39pm – Conor Gallagher has scored more Premier League goals against Palace (4) than he has against any other side, while he’s also netted more goals at Selhurst Park (6) than he has at any other ground in the competition. He also scored a vital 90th minute Premier League against the Eagles at Selhurst in October 2022.
10.37pm – Conor Gallagher on Palace’s fans: “I do love them, that’s the thing but you can’t beat that feeling. I’m sorry Palace fans.”
10.35pm – “It was a tough win. We weren’t good enough in the first half and we had to stick together to get the job done. We are buzzing with the three points.” – Conor Gallagher
10.30pm – Roy Hodgson has lost all seven of his Premier League encounters with Mauricio Pochettino, only facing Jurgen Klopp (9) more often in the competition and losing every time.
10.29pm – Chelsea have now won their last 13 matches against Palace.
10.21pm – The journey back home from Selhurst Park begins, so while we endure those all too familiar feelings, we’ll be sharing all the reaction and updates after the final whistle.
