ONE TO WATCH

ALEXANDER ISAK

FORMER CLUBS – AIK, Borussia Dortmund, Willem II (loan), Real Sociedad

The Swedish striker arrived in the North East with a hefty price tag but has gone some way to fulfilling that expectation with 16 goals in 29 appearances so far for the Toon. He is well on his way to a half century of international appearances for his country as well at just 24 years of age.

KEY CLASH

JORDAN AYEW v DAN BURN

Whatever you think of our Ghanaian Prince, he has been hugely important this season, particularly during the injury crisis which we hope is beginning to ease. He will be up against a form Brighton player who simply breaks the mould of the usual stature of full backs, but Burn is a very difficult customer in the Newcastle defence.

THE NUMBERS

Newcastle have conceded 17 goals in home matches since the start of last season in the Premier League, the joint-fewest of any non-promoted team, along with Manchester United

No team has kept more clean sheets in the Premier League this season than Palace (4). The Eagles have kept a shutout in their last 3 league games, last recording 4 in a row from February-June 2020 – a run which included a 1-0 win over Newcastle

Newcastle are eighth in the Premier League table with 13 points, but based on Opta’s expected points model, their expected points total based on game-by-game expected goals is 16.4; this is the second-highest expected points total in the competition this season, after Manchester City (16.6)

Palace have made 16 substitutions in the Premier League this season, 8 fewer than any other side, while never using more than 3 in a single game. The last teams to make fewer substitutions at this stage of a Premier League campaign were Burnley (14) and Aston Villa (15) in 2020-21

Newcastle’s Kieran Trippier has created 89 chances from set plays in the Premier League since the start of last season, 28 more than any other player in Europe’s big-five leagues. 8 of those chances have resulted in assists, the joint-most of any player from those aforementioned leagues, along with Monaco’s Caoi Henrique

TEB PREDICTION

There could well be some rustiness in the legs after the international break for some players while other will be refreshed. There is some hope that the Palace squad will start see some additions from the treatment room after almost seeing a full 11 missing important game time over the last few weeks. Regardless, this is a tough trip up to take on Newcastle on their patch ahead of an important Champions League game the following midweek. We are boldly predicting that the Eagles will take an important point with the hosts having bigger fish to fry this season.

FINAL SCORE: 1-1
