With United on a roll at home it was perhaps an expected defeat for the Eagles but they came close to returning South with a point rather than defeat.

TEB VERDICT

This was a performance that on another day could have seen the Eagles rewarded but that was not to be the case. It was a decent performance which should have really taken something from the game with the late pressure handed to the hosts after then went down to ten men.

It is clear that while Patrick Vieira gave the players credit for the bravery at Old Trafford, he indicated that this team needs to start taking advantage of certain situation and cutting out mistakes.

Both new signings got some minutes which will help their integration into the team but it is back to the games against sides that Palace should perhaps be looking to take points off, starting with the visit of a certain team to SE25 next weekend.

POST GAME QUOTES

PATRICK VIEIRA

“I didn’t see the red card, I was far from it. The game has to be played with respect, and sometimes when you don’t respect your opponent, things can happen. The player from United was looking for it, and he created this situation. But it’s about remaining calm, concentrate on what you want to do, and I was pleased with the character we showed today. It was a tough game, really tough decision from the referees. But we tried to play with a lot of discipline, we conceded the first goal and it was tough for us but we managed to stay into the game.”

ERIC TEN HAG

The player from Palace takes a big risk. Antony could be badly injured by pushing him across the line. Then everyone reacts – our players and their players. There’s a player who did even worse than Casemiro. You have to be consistent as a VAR. Last week when Eriksen was injured, no intervention from VAR. Martinez was running for 2 weeks with a lump on his eyebrow after Mateta elbowed him when we played at Palace. This isn’t right. Casemiro is protecting our player, and protecting the player, holding him back. If Casemiro should have been sent off, many more players should have been sent off.”
