Eagles Take Second Point In Succession From Top Four Side

As expected, Patrick Vieira shuffled his pack once again for the visit of Newcastle which was the third game in seven days for the Eagles ad they deserve all the credit for holding the visitors to a creditable goalless draw, the third against them this season.

TEB VERDICT

Three games in a week was always going to be a test for Vieira and his squad of players but they have come out the other side with two points and plenty of positives.

This was a finely poised match throughout and while there were a number of odd decisions from the officials, the Eagles had the best chance to take all three points courtesy of a Jean-Philippe Mateta effort. Overall, the points shared ends up being the fair result.

Once again, Chris Richards showed exactly why he was brought to the club with a very good performance  and it was good to see academy graduate David Ozoh get a few minutes towards the end of the games. The down sides remain the fact that we struggle to score goals as well as Wilfried Zaha joining Joachim Andersen for a spell on the sidelines. The weekend off coming up is perhaps well timed ahead of a trip to Old Trafford.

POST GAME QUOTES

PATRICK VIEIRA

“We needed to battle and compete; that is what we did. We took a point we deserved. It was difficult to play out from the back in the first half, we were putting pressure on ourselves. When we went long, we couldn’t win the second ball. We were starting to lose our confidence.

Today was about sticking together, fighting and competing. We worked hard and showed what we needed to show today. I’m pleased with that”

We showed togetherness, discipline and we take the point. I’m really pleased with that. We needed to make it really difficult for them at set pieces. With the ball in the air, nine times out of ten they will win it, but we coped quite well.”

EDDIE HOWE

“All I’d say is that I’m really pleased with the team today. We were ourselves and we had chances, we just didn’t take them. There were a lot of half-chance moments and presentable opportunities. A lot of moments where we didn’t quite get our final ball right.

We have high expectations of ourselves. It was two teams trying to impose themselves and trying to win. We dominated for long spells, they defended well. It’s great commitment from the group. All you can do is sit back every week and be very proud of what they’re delivering.

The most important thing is that if you don’t win, you don’t lose.”
