TEB VERDICT
The Eagles fared better than many of us expected in a long midweek trip up North. However, some of the spot kicks left a lot to be desired and ended up being the difference after putting in a lot of hard work during the 90 minutes. Not much else to say other than that it was a good run out for fringe players as a number of first team regulars did not feature which will hopefully set us up for the final game this side of the World Cup at Forest on Saturday.
POST GAME QUOTES
PATRICK VIEIRA
“We have a clear idea about the way we want to play the game regardless of the players on the field. We showed a discipline and quality at times. We had a couple of players who did ot play a lot and they performed well. I am pleased with the impact they had today, managing not to concede, to perform like that. I am really pleased with what we showed today.
After 90 mins it’s 0-0 and you go to penalties the difference is experience, the calmness of the players, it’s about making those five changes (that Newcastle made) that can have an impact on the penalties.”
EDDIE HOWE
“It’s exciting for everyone at the end, although not good for our health, but happy to get through. We know we can play much better than that but there are reasons, many of those playing haven’t had much game time. Credit to Palace, they defended deep and made it difficult. We wanted to win to keep that momentum and we want to go as far as we can in the cup.”
