DATE

23rd August 2022

VENUE

Kassam Stadium, Grenoble Road, Littlemore, Oxford OX4 4XP

PREVIOUS MEETING

It has been some time since these two sides have met in a competitive fixture, but Palace last made the short trip to Oxford in December 1998 for a Championship fixture, returning to South London after a deserved 3-1 win.

Craig Foster gave the visitors the lead before Dean Windass equalised with a fine free kick effort. Palace were always the better team and Clinton Morrison proved it by netting to give the Eagles the lead once again before Lee Bradbury had his legs taken from under him in the box, dusted himself down to despatched the ball into the net for the third goal.

DID YOU KNOW?

Despite being founded in 1893, Oxford United have only been known as such since 1960. For the 70 years prior to that, they were officially known as Headington United. They were renamed in order to give their club a higher profile.

PREDICTION

It is about time Palace took this competition seriously and with the squad that Patrick Vieira is building there should be an opportunity to get through the early rounds if the draw is kind. Having said that, this is a tricky away tie at a club who has already taken a significant scalp in the previous round.

FINAL SCORE: 2-1 to Palace
