TEB VERDICT

Palace can head into the international break proud of their good form and rightly so as they are only a handful of points away from mathematical safety in the Premier League and have just booked an FA Cup semi final at Wembley.

It is the latter that that is fresh in our minds after handing a beating to an awful Everton side at Selhurst but it was the manner in which the Eagles saw off the challenge of the Toffees. After what looked  a slow and nervy start, they soon found their way by getting on the score sheet midway through the first half and never really looked back. It was a real team effort and you have to look at the second goal which just shows you what this side are capable of.

No matter what we though last summer, nobody could have imagined exactly what effect Patrick Vieira would have on this club, but here we are heading to Wembley, one game from the final.

Bring on Chelsea in the semi final where Wembley will be painted red and blue once again.

POST GAME QUOTES

PATRICK VIEIRA “It is a really good win for the football club. We get on well as a team and we went through difficult times in the game, especially the first 15 or 20 minutes. But we didn’t concede; when we scored first, we started to believe more and managed to win the game. The crucial point was the first 15 minutes because they were on top of us; they had momentum. We showed maturity because we went longer and played for the second ball. It got us into the game but going into the second period not conceding was quite good for us. Going to Wembley is fantastic. You can hear the atmosphere in the stadium, the fans; this is what they wanted and we wanted to give it to them. They’ve been fantastic in getting behind the team. It is just a step forward; there is a long way to go. This is an exciting period for us, we will enjoy it and we will enjoy today.”

FRANK LAMPARD – “There’s only so much you can keep trying to butter someone up to give them confidence. There’s a balance of confidence and playing at the cut-throat end of football here. This is a quarter-final today to get to Wembley and if you haven’t got the confidence to play, you can quickly flip it and say, have you got the b******* to play? That’s the football reality. If you fall somewhere in the middle, then don’t worry about it. We didn’t play that badly today and Palace didn’t play that well today, but we lost  because of a lack of confidence and a lack of what I just said.”
