Crystal Palace have announced the signing of Malian international Bakary Sako on a 3 year deal.
Born in France, the 27-year-old got his break in the professional game with Chateauroux in Ligue 2 before making a move to St-Etienne three years later, where he became a regular. He was snapped up by Wolves for £4m in 2012.
Sako, a free agent after being released by Wolverhampton Wanderers in July, had been one of the Championship’s most consistent players and a regular at scoring goals. He was named in the PFA Championship team of the year for 2014/15 after scoring 15 goals in 41 games.
The 27 year old is also generating some prominence on the international stage as a key player for Mali. He had a decent African Cup Of Nations in which he scored once against the Ivory Coast.
Talking to CPFC.co.uk, he had this to say:
I talked to some clubs but when I met Alan [Pardew] I felt a good feeling between him and me and that’s why I chose Palace.
He plays attacking, attractive football so it should be good to play here and score some goals, that’s why I came to join him.
