Eagles Look For Points Against Everton At Selhurst

The season winds down ever closer but there remains plenty of excitement in and around Selhurst Park after the events in the Conference League on Thursday evening.

Reaching a European Final has created more history for a club that has been on quite a run in terms of silverware in the last twelve months.

However, points are still required to ensure the club are not involved in any silliness at the bottom of the table with Palace not yet mathematically safe.

Some may find the above line ridiculous with the games still to be played by West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur, but the Eagles were involved in one of the most famous final-day relegation battles in football history during the inaugural 1992-93 Premier League season.

Going into that final week of the season, Oldham Athletic looked doomer, sitting six points from safety with only three game remaining. Joe Royle’s Latics pulled off an incredible run of form and beating Southampton on the final day, while Palace lost at Arsenal. Both teams finished on 49 points but the goal swing between the two clubs ensured that it was the Eagles that were relegated on that ridiculous points total.

When you have experienced such an unexpected end of the season, you take nothing for granted, and it would be a travesty for that to happen again, let alone this season of all season. It is perhaps more unrealistic as West Ham and Spurs would both have to win their final three games without Palace taking any points from their remaining four.

The visitors head into the fixture off the back of a high scoring draw at home to Manchester City on Monday. They do have mixed form with one win in their last five games, but they are in with a chance of qualifying for Europe so have plenty to play for.

As for Palace, Thursday night remains at the forefront of our minds, as does the final in Leipzig. Oliver Glasner granted his squad a day off on Friday due to the large amount of games that the Eagles have had to play so far this season so tried a different tact.

Palace have mirrored the form of Everton in the Premier League in their last five, managing just the one win which has just about kept them arms length from the bottom three.

It will be interesting to see what kind of line-up the Austrian will pick after making several changes for the game at Bournemouth last weekend which ended in defeat, but there is a three game week coming up with a visit to Manchester City on Wednesday before heading to Brentford next Sunday.
