POST GAME QUOTES

OLIVER GLASNER

“We had no kind of quality today and I saw no one who could win a dribble. Then conceding set goals and timing in the header. If you can’t create clear chances, it is a lack of quality that we have shown today. We deserved to lose. Honestly, I have no explanation for what I have seen and we can find excuses but you don’t need tactics and a manager for these games. So I think if you just show what you are capable of and show pride then you perform in a different way.”

TEB VERDICT

What can be said about that performance? Awful, lacklustre, and placid. Palace deserved everything they got and that is being dumped out of the competition at the first attempt at defending the trophy.

There could be nothing to taint what happened in May last year, none whatsoever, but this leaves a very sour taste in the mouth. Perhaps we could see it coming, heading into the tie in awful form, key injuries, and the game being played on a state-of-the-art 4G pitch. We saw how much the players struggled in Norway at the beginning of the season and this was even worse.

The attitude looked very wrong from the start which was a worry, real lack or leadership on the pitch, no apparent urgency, and no understanding of the occasion. We are so much better than this, we really are.

Thankfully there is a whole week until the next Palace game, the longest break for quite some time, and they really must make the most of it to get out of this awful slump. This is an embarrassing cup exit, particularly as holders, which really does bring us back down to earth.
