POST GAME QUOTES

OLIVER GLASNER

It was a good performance but in the last four defeats we lost three just from set pieces. It’s not acceptable and I have to find solutions to support the players better. We can’t afford to give so many goals away from set pieces. it’s the reason we lost today. I was pleased with how we moved the ball and defended.

TEB VERDICT

The Eagles fall to a fourth league defeat in five games with set pieces suddenly becoming a real Achilles heel for them.

This was a tight game until two quick fire second half goals but the fact is, Palace were in it until the hosts made a trio of substitutions which perhaps says everything you need to know and backs up the huge miss that the injured players are.

Add to that a concussion for Jefferson Lerma in the first half and an early second half exit for Nathaneil Clyne forcing unplanned changes for Oliver Glasner would have disrupted any plans off the bench.

Add to that Jean-Philippe Mateta looking a shadow of his former self, it’s certainly a tough period and the sooner we get back to one game a week the better.

It is expected that we will start to see players return towards the end of the month, as well as Ismaila Sarr returning from the AFCON which is much needed as the squad as it is are really struggling, but it is baffling how they now seem to be vulnerable defending set pieces which Glasner has described as unacceptable in his post-match comments.

Regardless, Adam Wharton shone for the Eagles as did Maxence Lacoix and Jaydee Canvot who was introduced earlier than expected due to the Lerma head injury.
