Subdued Palace Suffer Heavy Defeat At Leeds

It was a hugely disappointing night in Yorkshire for the Eagles who followed up the midweek home draw in Europe with an unrecognisable performance at Elland Road.

POST GAME QUOTES

OLIVER GLASNER

“Very disappointing performance today. Couldn’t defend set plays, honestly it’s embarrassing. Couldn’t match their physicality today. It is the first game this season we fully deserved to lose.

In three days we have a chance at the Emirates, against the team that is the best maybe at set plays to do it better.

They played man-to-man and we lost every single duel. We won one duel and we get the penalty. When you lose all the duels, it’s the basics, we didn’t show the basics. We thought we could pass the ball but we had no chance in the duels and then you lose every single game.”

TEB VERDICT

The Eagles looked to take control early on in this game creating a few chances but ended up going in at the break 2-0 down, as they succumbed to two long throws which ended up with goals from Dominic Calvert-Lewin, a player that always seems to find the net against us.

Unfortunately, it only got worse from there as Palace never got going in the second half and found themselves three down with half an hour left to play. The remainder of the game was chasing the result but the front line were poor and rarely looked to threaten the hosts the longer the game went on, although there was a consolation from the spot courtesy of Justin Devenny, and had he converted a late header that rebounded off the post there could have been a late flurry.

Drawing with KuPS on Thursday night would only have been acceptable with a win at Leeds, so these are two games that have proved costly. Could a victory at Arsenal on Tuesday make up for it?

It was very unlike Palace to be so poor defensively, a part of the game that has been so strong for song long under Oliver Glasner. You can argue that the hosts had the week to prepare for this game, and they clearly did a great job. Meanwhile, Glasner had two games to prepare for in less that 48 hours.
