Palace End Unbeaten Liverpool Run With Late Nketiah Winner

The visitors had their perfect record ended in SE25 but it is the incredible run that the Eagles are on that should be spoken about more, an unbeaten run that stretches to 18 games with this victory over the defending champions.

POST GAME QUOTES

OLIVER GLASNER

“We deserved the win. We played an amazing first half and had a deserved lead. To overcome the pressure of Liverpool, they deserved an equaliser but I’m delighted at the reaction of our team.

Every player is so important, all the subs came on to help us to win the game. I am really proud of the performance. We talk about our personality, we always go for the win. Everybody who is close to Crystal Palace got their reward today. The fans will have a great Saturday evening, as will the whole club.

The players showed so much confidence. We made so many runs, the quality of the passes, runs into the box, it was excellent. We will analyse the game and take in all this positivity. I said to the players to enjoy this evening, it is the best recovery. You have to enjoy these moments otherwise you have to ask why you are doing it.”

EDDIE NKETIAH

“It is nothing less than the boys deserved. We never give up, we never stop believing. That’s what our fans are known for and shows the togetherness of the group. We always keep believing. There was still time to play. The Manager said to stay calm and you will get another situation, and thankfully we did.”

TEB VERDICT

What can you say about that?

A first half that is arguably the best that many a Palace fan has seen their team play, and the hosts really should have had a bigger lead at the break that they went it with.

The return of Ismaila Sarr showed just what we have missed who hit the net before ten minutes of the game were up. Liverpool were shell shocked, and with Adam Wharton pulling the strings and Daichi Kamada really coming into his own, it was quite a performance from the hosts.

It was always going to be a case that the visitors would come out for the second half a different team and while they posed some pressure on a stubborn Palace back line, it ended up being a very messy equaliser that perhaps should have been prevented and should have been disallowed for handball.

Regardless, this Palace side never know when to stop and with Liverpool benefitting from a lot of late goals so far this season, it was their turn to suffer at the hands of one as Eddie Nketiah came off the bench to win the game for Palace.

This was quite a performance against the champions, as Oliver Glasner has his group of players all singing from the same hymn sheet. They fight to the end and are all in this together. The celebrations involving every single player was a sight to behold.

Every single player played their part in this win which puts Palace up into second place in the Premier League, heady heights indeed. However, one call out has to be the two excellent saves that Dean Henderson somehow managed which proved to be very important indeed.
