Stalemate In Norway, But Palace Progress To League Phase

It certainly was not pretty as the Eagles struggled to get to grips with the artificial surface but it was very much job done as Oliver Glasner and his players manage to get themselves into the draw on Friday.

POST GAME QUOTES

OLIVER GLASNER

“Huge achievement – going into the league stage was our second goal. The first one was winning the Community Shield. Against an opposition which is not easy to play. We had to accept it and the players did well and defended the box excellently. We know we have to and can play better in possession.

The story of the game is we lost too many balls too easily. Of course, we have to improve how we play and how quickly we play.”

CHRIS RICHARDS

“We have been defending really well so we were hoping we could continue doing that. Every game is not going to be pretty, but as long as you get the result, that’s the big thing. Everybody is super excited. We are an ambitious club. Now it is time to win some games in Europe. We are ready to make history. A hostile environment but Fredrikstad are a good team. It wasn’t pretty but we got the result we needed.”

TEB VERDICT

It was certainly a nervous watch from afar but the players stood up and defended well but could not get that goal that would have things a little easier. Regardless, this is a massive achievement to get through the two legged play-off and be in the draw for the league phase of the competition.

The players and management staff deserve a lot of credit as it looked a struggle for on the artificial surface. Jean-Phillipe Mateta who is usually so good with the ball at his feet on really found his way in the latter stages, but missed a golden chance to add to the goal he scored at Selhurst Park in the first leg.

Notable individual performances from that stubborn back three of Chris Richards, Marc Guehi, and Maxence Lacroix.
