Palace Take Two Goal Lead But City Fight Back To Win

It all started so well for the Eagles who could have been three up in the first half which would have made it more difficult for the hosts to get back into the game, but it was a once sided affair from that point as the defending champions showed their class.

TEB VERDICT

The announcement in the week that Belgian international Kevin De Bruyne was to leave City at the end of the season was ominous, as this game ended up as the KDB show.

However, the travelling Palace fans were in dream land after going two goals up in the first half, a third was ruled off for being offside which really could have ended any chance the hosts had of getting back into the game. With that disallowed goal, City went up the other end and it was that man who scored a free kick off the post and only one team was going to win.

This Palace side plays with attacking intent and freedom which makes it so much fun to watch, but a result like this could always happen as a result. Having said that, the last time that happened it was at the hands of Arsenal and that resulted in a very good run of form for the Eagles.

It is hopeful that this result is not too damaging and just one to forget after some analysis on the training ground. With four in two weeks leading up to the semi-final, that is a tough run with a trip to Newcastle next up.

Worthy mention to Chris Richards who returned with a goal and performance to match.

POST GAME QUOTES

OLIVER GLASNER

“Of course we are very disappointed, especially when you start like we did and go two goals up. But the pressure increased and our defensive structure was not on our top level today, and a team like City find those small gaps.

It gives us confidence as we know we can score goals, but we need to be more compact and we will learn from this game. Sometimes you need a tough defeat, conceding many goals, to learn. Every team misses their captain, but it’s not just about the back three.”

PEP GUARDIOLA

“Kevin De Bruyne with the free-kick changed the momentum. We started really well but they’re the best team on set-pieces, and we’re not the tallest team. If you see the chances we had we could’ve scored eight or nine.

With James McAtee the quality is there, we know it. He could’ve scored a hat-trick or four goals, because the chances were so clear. It’s not easy when you don’t play regularly to have the composure, but I’m sure we can rely on him.”
