TEB VERDICT

It is difficult to know where to start with this one considering how much happened in what turned out to be well over the usual allotted time for a game of football.

Most importantly, the Eagles managed to complete the double over a Brighton side that just did not want it as much as the hosts did. It is very hard to describe exactly the noise and emotion that could be heard at Selhurst once Palace went down to ten men, then nine men, and then throughout the lengthy amount of injury time.

The two red cards do have to be addressed and while you understand that they were given by the letter of the law, we have all seen games where players on a yellow are given the benefit of the doubt. This was never the case with Anthony Taylor who wasted no time in either decision, even if at least of the bookings for Nketiah and Guehi were harsh.

It did set up a grandstand finish, and the noise that emanated from the old ground was something to behold, not to mention the roar at the final whistle.

The celebrations by the Palace players showed just what it meant to them, and each of them got it, completely got it, including Oliver Glasner and the bench.

There are too many players to mention who put in a performance to secure this victory, but special mentions have to go to Eze, JP and Munoz.

POST GAME QUOTES

OLIVER GLASNER

“It’s a massive win but I’m really exhausted because there was so much going on and this atmosphere in the stadium. The fighting spirit of the team and the togetherness with our fans, it is just really great to experience.

We talked about it very often, these moments you can’t buy. You can’t buy, you have to experience and that is great to get this experience and be part of it. Even so, I’m really happy to lay on my sofa and just do nothing today.

I could see how the players were fighting together in many situations. Brighton are such a good team, such quick players and I felt that they need all the support we can give. It was a fantastic atmosphere. I needed something to do with my arms as I couldn’t keep them in my pockets. At the end, it’s a really fantastic win today.”

FABIAN HURZELER

“Very emotional game, a very wild game. Difficult to get a rhythm into this game especially in the second half. That was a little bit to our disadvantage. We weren’t able to control the game like in the first half because of everything. The emotional final part of the game didn’t help us to control it.

Especially in derbies, it is very important to stay rational. Of course, to have these emotions inside of you but in the right moments and at the right timing. In some moments, we weren’t mature enough. It didn’t help us to get the rhythm back and that is something we have to learn.”
