TEB VERDICT

The talking point from the game that will all that will be remembered from this match up is the horrific challenge on Jean-Philippe Mateta which saw him leave the field on a stretcher and taken straight to hospital.

In a stop start first half which saw 13 minutes of additional time and a red card for the visitors goalkeeper, Palace looked to take a deserved 2-0 lead into the break thanks to an own goal and a Daniel Munoz strike. However, the visitors netted with the final kick off the first half to make things interesting for the second half.

The Eagles huffed and puffed but found a third goal through Eddie Nketiah with his second in as many games which ended any hopes the visitors had of getting back into the game.

While it was far from a vintage performance, the Eagles are in the hat for the FA Cup Quarter Finals which are to be played on the final weekend of March.

Notable mentions to Chris Richards, Daniel Munoz, and Ben Chilwell for their individual performances.

POST GAME QUOTES

OLIVER GLASNER

“The players did well until 55th minute in the first half. We controlled the game and the lead was 2-0 and we gave them unnecessarily the ball before half time and then all of a sudden it’s 2-1. They got back their belief. Second half wasn’t the best, didn’t create a lot of chances but Eddie decided the game – an amazing header.

Now after watching, it is tough to talk about game because I have this clip of the challenge on JP in my mind.

Going to Quarter Finals in the FA Cup, great achievement. Fingers crossed and hoping all the best for JP.”

STEVE PARISH

“So far we know he has a bad gash behind his ear, and a head injury. We hope for the best. There is a lot of emotion in football, but we need to talk about that challenge. The goalkeeper is 30 years old and that is a reckless challenge. It is the worst I have seen, the lad needs to take a long hard look at ourselves. We are worried about JP. Credit to the players for playing on as that was a lengthy stoppage. Why the referee needed to go and look at the screen after a VAR referral, I have no idea!”

ALEX NEIL

“I think the ball went in behind, Liam Roberts has come out which he has done in many games he’s played. He’s misjudged it and caught the lad. He has mistimed it, he got sent off which at that stage made the game doubly difficult for us.

I don’t think it is meant. I don’t think there is any intent, why would there be intent? We don’t want the lad to be injured. We wish him well and hope he is back on the pitch soon. It was a mistiming, he was sent off, he is disappointed and will hope Mateta is fine, which we all do.

You are playing Premier League opposition on their own ground so it is a difficult task with 11 men. The nature of the goals probably disappoint me the most.”
