Eagles Defence Holds For Hard Earned Point At Bournemouth

This was a game that was not easy on the eye with both teams making mistakes and missing chances but Oliver Glasner will be the happier of the two managers as Palace earned a good point on the South Coast.

TEB VERDICT

On the balance of play, the goalless draw was perhaps the fairest outcome after a game of staunch defending and missed chances by both teams on a dour afternoon down in Bournemouth.

The hosts arguably had the better of the chances and the Eagles will be considered fortunate not to have been down to ten men early on after a clumsy challenge by Ebere Eze.

The defence did stand firm but rode their luck in a fixture against a side flying high this season which ends up being a very good point away from home. It remains to be seen if the injury sustained by Will Hughes will keep him out for any length of time but his replacement, Cheick Doucoure, performed well in his absence and did push the team forwards a little more.

A fifth yellow card, a frustrating one at that, see Marc Guehi serve a one match ban at Selhurst at the weekend. Worthy mentions to Ismaila Sarr, Jefferson Lerma, Daniel Munoz and Marc Guehi who all shone.

POST GAME QUOTES

OLIVER GLASNER

“It’s okay, it is a point. I think the game was like we expected a lot of duels and very intense. They are doing well and, on a run, so it is fine.

We knew that set plays especially in the first half we struggled twice but in the end we did well in defending. They had several shots but we didn’t need a big save from our goalkeeper. We had three or four opportunities to score, overall, I think it’s okay.

You could see today that they played very direct, in behind, had a lot of pace almost from every position. It makes it difficult to play against them. Sometimes you move the ball very quickly and then we could switch the sides and create situations. It was a good performance and a very important point.”

ANDONI IRAOLA

“I think we must value the point. It’s not what we wanted at the beginning. I think we did half of the job: we defended well, didn’t concede, kept the clean sheet, but we missed a bit of the final touch at the end. We had a few good transitions where we lacked a bit of sharpness in the last pass, last control and we couldn’t score the goal.”
