Palace Make It Three Unbeaten With Hard Earned Point At Wolves

The end of a tough and tiring week in which the Eagles had three games to contend with, they should get the plaudits for being unbeaten with a cup quarter final to look forward to.

TEB VERDICT

This could well have been one game too many in a week where we lost two key players due to injury, but a battling performance at Molineux ensured that the points were shared in a game where the visitors created plenty of openings, and on another day could have taken all three points.

It was an entertaining affair with plenty of talking points, and the Eagles could well have nicked it late on when Jean-Philippe Mateta netted only for the goal to be denied following a dubious VAR decision.

This was very much about respecting the point after taking a deserved lead and then going behind. The players showed plenty of character to get back on level terms and they will need that in the coming weeks with such a depleted squad.

Worthy mentions of the individual performances from Jean-Philippe Mateta, Ismaila Sarr, Dean Henderson, and Marc Guehi.

POST GAME QUOTES

OLIVER GLASNER

“I’m really proud of the team and the players for how they performed. It was the third game in six days. We should have taken the lead before half-time. We had two great chances after making it 1-0. You could see the players were tired, the squad is very tight at the moment.

After the set play, we knew Wolves would struggle with them so we scored two from them. If we have so many chances in an away game, 5 or 6 clear ones, then you should decide it. You could see the players were very tired after a very intense week.”

MARC GUEHI

“We have a lot of leaders in the team. The attitude and application has been spot on. Going into training every day with a winning mentality. Credit to the lads and the staff. We just want to carry this on.

When you are reading things about yourself [Newcastle interest], it can be distracting. I have a good support system around me and it is important that humility. Palace have given me all the things in the world and I just want to repay them and give my best.”

GARY O’NEIL

“Disappointed that we didn’t come out on top. It was sort of slow and then they scored at a moment where we were the better side. It was a soft goal from a defensive error and we did not really look like conceding in that moment.

When you then go 1-0 down in a Premier League game you need a response and we definitely got that. The 3 substitutes made a big impact. The game looked like it could drift away from us at that moment but it didn’t thanks to the impact of those players. I’m disappointed because I thought we could have gone on and won it.”
