TEB VERDICT
Just like buses, you wait for one and two come along at the same time.
The Eagles backed up their first league victory of the season against Spurs on Sunday with victory at Villa Park to seal a place in the quarter finals of the League Cup.
It was not without its troubles as while Palace took the game to the hosts, both Ebere Eze and Adam Wharton left the field early due to injury. While we knew Wharton’s struggles, we will have to see if the problem for Eze is significant.
But let’s not that take away from a fine victory over a side who have performed well so far this season in the Premier League and the Champions League.
The much-maligned Daichi Kamada turned out to be the match winner after an excellent second half performance from him, after Eze had given the visitors a deserved lead. Even though Villa found an equaliser, there was plenty about this Palace performance to think that they could find another goal and that proved to be the case.
Jean-Philippe Mateta was an absolute pest up front and ably supported by Daniel Munoz, Will Hughes and Trevoh Chalobah in terms of standout performances.
There is of course the thought that playing a strong side does run the risk of key players suffering injury, but sometimes the potential reward can outweigh the risk, so let’s hope that is the case.
