TEB VERDICT
You can question a lot of things from this performance but there were plenty of chances for the visitors to at least end the game level, but there was something missing which is difficult to put a finger on.
The biggest concern on the pitch was the lack of urgency and the high tempo that you would normally associate with this Palace side under Oliver Glasner. There is enough talent in the squad not to be eight games in and just be on three points.
There is plenty of concern, but there is a clear lack of confidence in the ability of these players and that must be a worry for the Austrian. He is not faultless, but it would be a real shame for this chapter to end as he is arguably the best manager to have been appointed at the club.
He needs time to get things right but that time is beginning to run out. Thankfully, Palace are one of four clubs to have not managed a win in these first eight games. Perhaps that is the luck that Palace and Glasner need to get things right.
POST GAME QUOTES
OLIVER GLASNER
“We are all frustrated and disappointed and as always one or two situations decide the game. At the moment it goes against us, but this is the time we have to get through it together. I saw the team fighting from the first to the last second, we created chances, hit the post twice. At the moment don’t score goals and we have to be honest. No goal today, no goal against Liverpool, no goal against United, and if you play like this it is difficult to win. We make one mistake and we get punished. That is the situation we are in.”
MARC GUEHI
“I can’t fault anyone. Everyone put effort into that game. At the moment nothing is going for us. We have to go back, keep working and stick together. We’re creating chances but any slight mistake gets punished. When the world is against you, you have to keep fighting. We are all at fault. It’s not one person for that goal. Life’s hard and you have to deal with it. You have to keep fighting to get better. It’s important that we stick together.”
WILL HUGHES
“As players we have to take responsibility. Over the last eight games we haven’t been good enough. There’s pressure every game, but we know what we have to do to get out of this situation. You look at the squad, the ability we have, it’s just not clicking at the moment. We’ve got to stick together now.”
