TEAM NEWS

PALACE – Matheus Franca is expected to miss out again while Will Hughes may be fit again after missing the West ham game due to illness. It is likely that those players that played international football during the summer may be rested if of course there is enough personnel in the squad.

NORWICH – The visitors will be smarting from losing the exciting Jonathan Rowe to Marseille  in lead up to the game with Sheffield United at the weekend. Onel Hernandez could be recalled to the side after his brace in the first round against Stevenage. Ashley Barnes, Jacob Sorensen and Christain Fassnacht are long term absentees. New signing Ante Crnac could make his debut.

DISCIPLINARY RECORD

This is the section of our match preview that highlights those that have not been the best of friends with match officials as the season goes on. Of course, they all begin with a clean slate, but we will start to see those that will be heading for a ban or two as the campaign progresses.

RED CARDS – None
YELLOW CARDS – Marc Guehi (1), Daichi Kamada (1), Lucas Paqueta (1), Chris Richards (1), Joachim Andersen (1), Jefferson Lerma (1), Gabriel Forsyth (1), George Long (1)

EFL CUP FORM

Last season Palace got through the Second Round with a 4-2 victory at Plymouth Argyle but exited in the Third Round after a 3-0 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford. Norwich safely navigated the First Round with a 1-0 win at QPR, and managed the same score line at Bristol City in the Second Round. They eventually succumbed to Fulham at Craven Cottage after a 2-1 defeat.

You have to go back quite some time to find the last time these two sides met in a cup competition – over 30 years ago in fact when in March 1991 Palace won a two legged Zenith Data Systems Southern Area final 3-1 on aggregate. Obviously, the rest is history as the Eagles went on to beat Everton in the final and lift their only trophy.

Norwich reached the Second Round this season after a 4-3 home win against League 1 side Stevenage who pushed them all the way in what was an exciting cup tie.

FORM PLAYERS ACCORDING TO WHO SCORED

This is the section of our match preview where we list two players from each side that are top of the ratings by our friends over at Who Scored. Obviously, there are no ratings to share at the moment but that will soon change!

Josh Sargent 7.22
Ebere Eze 7.00
Callum Doyle 6.89
Adam Wharton 6.75

ONE TO WATCH

JOSH SARGENT
FORMER CLUBS – St Louis Scott Gallagher, IMG Academy, Werder Bremen
It remains to be seen if the American striker starts or even features for the visitors but he would be a dangerous proposition for the hosts having scored 2 goals in 3 games so far this season.

KEY CLASH

PALACE v NORWICH
Considering how teams approach this competition, it has been harder and harder to select a key clash for this cup tie.

TEB PREDICTION

Who knows how this is going to go especially where the line ups are concerned let alone the actual result. Makes predictions pretty difficult but this is the first cup tie as manager of Palace for Oliver Glasner and he has had success previously in Germany in such competitions so it will be interesting to see how the Eagles approach the game. We are in an upbeat mood and going for a victory in normal time to help kick start our season.

FINAL SCORE: 2-0
