TEB VERDICT

The win at Anfield was very impressive, and to follow that up with a thrashing or West Ham was more than perfect. To see off another top ten side with European ambitions and make it three victories in succession is simply marvellous.

The impact that Oliver Glasner has had since arrived in South London has been slowly but surely taking place, but for those of us that watch Palace week in week out, there have been plenty of hard work and glimpses of something coming.

This was another high intensity performance that took the game away from the visitors and made them look rather ordinary. Another superb brace from Mateta sealed the win, from a player who has become one of the most improved players we have witnessed wearing a Palace shirt.

Once again, he was ably assisted by the tricky Eze, the excellent Hughes and Warton combination in the middle of the park, with notable mentioned to hard working Ayew and Munoz and not to mention the defensively sounds Andersen and Richards.

Truly an all round performance to enjoy and savour and with four more games of the season to come, we can look forward to witnessing the Glasner revolution.

Glasner responding to a question from the media about three wins in a row, he wants to make it four. We are in a brave new world at Palace and we are enjoying what we are hearing and seeing very much.

BOB’S POINT OF VIEW

Bob White was a coach at Palace under the tenure of Steve Coppell and Alan Smith and will be sharing his point of view each week in our review article.

“After such impressive performances in our previous two games, one wondered whether we could sustain similar levels against a team who had eleven days to prepare for the game.

However, we answered that challenge from the very first minute and completely controlled the game until the final whistle. In between, we were entertained again to a high pressing and intensity performance. Winning the ball back quickly allowing Eze especially to receive the ball regularly in the opposition final third posed constant problems for the Newcastle defence.

Yet again, the midfield fulcrum of Wharton and Hughes dominated the key areas of the pitch. They tackled with purpose denying Newcastle’s creative players the space to cause damage to our defence.

Mateta is a player transformed playing with huge confidence showing real composure in his finishing inside the penalty box. Maybe he is the 20 league goals a season striker which any team aspiring to finish in the top groups requires. Only time will tell.

All credit to the whole squad for achieving three consecutive wins which is no mean feat in such a competitive league. The magic number of ten wins was achieved in the process guaranteeing Premier League status for yet another season.

In a team of some outstanding performances, my man of the match goes to Will Hughes.”

POST GAME QUOTES

OLIVER GLASNER

“All the credit to the players for their performance, their spirit, their togetherness on the pitch. I thought if we played in this style and intensity again, we would have to make 10 changes after 60 minutes! It was a fantastic atmosphere at Selhurst and the fans pushed the players. Second half, the game was tighter but we scored fantastic goals.

When you win you have a lot of self-confidence. I saw an excellent first half against Manchester City, we could have had a 3-0 lead at Bournemouth. We can see the players are listening, they are really hard working and there is a great spirit in the team. We are on a good pathway but it is just the beginning of our journey. I have to say thank you to the players for trusting us, changing things mid-season. Thank you for the trust and now we all get the reward.”

EDDIE HOWE

“We were disappointing today. Never really got into our best fluent rhythm. Disappointed especially with the first 60 minutes. We were nowhere near where we wanted to be. Disappointed with our technical performance today, we are usually better than that.”
