Palace Disappoint In Narrow Defeat At Bournemouth

This was a match played in desperately difficult conditions and there was very little between the two sides and ultimately it was a single goal from a substitute that secured the points for the hosts.

TEB VERDICT

Even with James Tomkins on the bench, Oliver Glasner struggled to find a centre back to take the place of Chris Richards who picked up an injury in the draw at Forest. Regardless, this was a tight affair that could have gone either way, and for a tight VAR decision right before the break, things could have been different after Eze netted. Unfortunately, the Eagles did not do enough to take any points and now sit looking over their shoulders with two very difficult games coming up.

While many will say that we should not find ourselves in such a position, one more win from the remaining eight games of the season should see off any concerns of being dragged into trouble.

POST GAME QUOTES

OLIVER GLASNER

“If you don’t score a goal you can’t win. We had many good situations. You need to shoot. Maybe we have to improve, be more decisive in offensive positions. We didn’t score and one situation for Bournemouth decided the game. I would worry about it if we didn’t have the situations to score. We played really well in the second half but we have to be more direct and not passing and passing. Take the shots.

We’ve got Manchester City next. They come to Selhurst and it’s a game we won’t have a lot of possession. Maybe we will get three or four chances but we have to be efficient. If you are not efficient you can lose everywhere.”

ANDONI IRAOLA

“It’s nice to have 41 points at this moment. We still have eight games to play and have a tough schedule. We need to keep improving. We have to go game by game.”
