TEB VERDICT

It certainly was not pretty but it was all smiles when Tyrick Mitchell slotted in the all important second Palace goal. Palace took advantage of poor defending for both strikes with Jordan Ayew and the returning Eberechi Eze heavily involved.

This win puts the Eagles onto 15 points from 11 games and having done so with a lengthy injury list, including key players, is impressive. With news that Michael Olise is working his way back, Roy Hodgson will soon have a number of options available to him. That will be the time to build on this solid foundation in a division that is already taking shape.

POST GAME QUOTES

ROY HODGSON

“That second goal is the sort of goal that when you are pushing and trying as hard as Burnley did throughout the game, causing us problems and getting into our area, breakaways like that happen and it skews the score line really.

It was more of a 1-0 victory which would have come about through some excellent defending and through some very diligent and disciplined work.

But 2-0 flatters us a bit and was very harsh on Burnley who I thought played well. It’s very surprising that a team capable of applying that sort of pressure on an opponent is struggling to get those points. If they carry on playing like they did today, I am certain those points will come.

VINCENT KOMPANY

“I think it’s very simple. At the moment, there are individual mistakes. That’s what’s costing us at this moment in time. I do believe in a game like this you can still turn it around and give yourself chances, but it’s a game of fine margins. It’s a difficult result of course.

The reality of the league is what it is. You can’t hide away from it. The performance was good, we had chances. We didn’t score, we conceded very little chances but we made a big mistake and that cost us. That’s the reality of this league.

Putting things into context, it’s not supposed to be easy when you come up. We’ve just got to dust ourselves off and get ready to perform again and believe we will get the results that we need.

We have to keep doing the work, stay calm. I’m not happy but I’m extremely motivated. It’s a good squad and staff and people to work with.”
