ONE TO WATCH
MIGUEL ALMIRON
FORMER CLUBS – Cerro Porteno, Lanus, Atlanta United
The Paraguayan international is in great form heading into the fixture and if he features, he will certainly be one to keep an eye on as we know from experience. Almiron is closing in on 50 international appearances for his country, but they will not be taking part in the World Cup Finals in Qatar after losing out to Peru in the play offs.
KEY CLASH
JEAN-PHILIPPE MATETA v SVEN BOTMAN
Difficult to predict who exactly will be lining up for each team but we suspect these two will be going up against each other which could be a key battle as Palace will be keen on scoring first and putting the hosts on the back foot.
LAST SEASON IN THE EFL CUP
Newcastle exited at the hands of Burnley at St James’ Park on penalties after a goalless draw. Palace fared no better with defeat at Vicarage Road to Watford.
The final was contested between Chelsea and Liverpool who played out a goalless draw, with the Reds taking the trophy courtesy of a penalty shoot out.

DID YOU KNOW?
The club badge originates from the fourteenth century. Newcastle Upon Tyne’s Coast of Arms is a depiction of the city’s heritage. The badge has a Norman-era castle in the middle with two seahorses on each side–signifying the city’s seafaring past. It first appeared on shirts in the 1910 FA Cup final.
PREDICTION
Tough to call this one as it is difficult to know how the thought process of the two managers will be ahead of kick off. They are both likely to rest key players and give a run out to some fringe players even though we are on the brink of the World Cup break. To be honest, we are not expecting much from this one as it is a rubbish draw for midweek so we hope those hardy souls making the trip have something to cheer on the long journey back.
FINAL SCORE: 2-1 to Newcastle
