TEB VERDICT

A return to action saw a decent Palace performance after a number of weeks off. Vieira went for a line up full of skill and attack minded players, but was missing the accomplished Joachim Andersen, compounding matters with the loss of Nathaniel Clyne due to a worry injury in the build up to the Chelsea equaliser.

The key talking point was the handball by Thiago Silva which prevented Jordan Ayew a run in on goal. A free kick for Palace and a booking for the visiting centre back was deemed the right decision by the official and VAR. You can be sure, had that been Marc Guehi, a red card would have been brandished pretty quickly.

With Wilfried Zaha subdued mainly because he was up against the classy Reece James, the hosts played their part in an entertaining game and really should not have been on the end of a defeat.

Now the kinder run of games is with us, points need to be picked up to match some of these performances that have been put in, starting with Leeds next weekend.

POST GAME QUOTES

PATRICK VIEIRA “Regarding Thiago, it’s something I don’t want to talk about.  It’s difficult for me to understand it, to accept it, so it’s better sometimes to be really quiet. I believe the referee got it wrong and if I say what I think I would be in trouble. There’s a referee, there’s a VAR and they are making decisions. We just move on.”

GRAHAM POTTER – “With regards to the Thiago incident, it was probably a 50-50 one that we’ve come out on the right side of. The fact that he’s quite a way away from the goal has probably helped us but I can understand Patrick’s frustration. On a personal level, it’s just nice to get the first win under the belt. They could have felt sorry for themselves but they didn’t – they kept pushing in a tight game. We’ve edged it but it probably could have gone either way in fairness.”
