ONE TO WATCH

JACK GREALISH

FORMER CLUBS – Highgate United, Aston Villa, Notts County (loan)

Whether or not you think the £100 million transfer fee for Grealish was worthy, the England midfielder has impressed so far this season for his new club having featured regularly for the defending champions.

KEY CLASH

JAMES MCARTHUR v KEVIN DE BRUYNE

If Palace are to get anything from this game then the midfield battle will be key and McArthur has been in fantastic form so far this season for the Eagles. With de Bruyne yet to really get started after a disappointing European Championships in the summer, he remains a key man for the opposition and the dogged determination and sheer stubbornness of the Scotsman will be very much needed in this match up.

PRE-MATCH FACTS

  • City’s only defeat in the past 12 Premier League meetings came at home in December 2018 (W9, D2)
  • City did the double over Palace last season, scoring 6 goals without conceding
  • Palace have kept just 1 clean sheet in their last 16 top-flight encounters with City, failing to score in 11
  • Palace can equal the club record of five consecutive league draws They have done this on 3 occasions but never in the top flight
  • The Eagles have drawn 6 of their 9 league matches this season. Ipswich and Leeds are the only teams to draw as many as seven of their opening 10 Premier League fixtures
  • Palace’s only Premier League away win in 10 attempts came at Sheffield United in May
  • The Eagles could concede 2 or more goals in 7 consecutive Premier League away games for the first time
  • 10 of Palace’s 11 league goals this season have been scored in the second half, the highest ratio in the division. Their only first-half goal came in stoppage time
  • Wilfried Zaha needs 1 goal to become the first player to score 50 times for Palace in the top flight. Zaha has never scored against City in 13 competitive appearances, and neither has Christian Benteke in his 15 games versus them
  • Patrick Vieira ended his playing career at City, scoring 3 goals in 28 Premier League appearances in 2010-2011

PREDICTION

The Eagles will need to be on their best form for the trip to take on City, particularly after the hosts experienced their first League Cup loss in midweek since 2016. It is never a good sign to take on such a side after a defeat but there is something very different about Palace this season. Cut out the mistakes and there really is something about this team under Vieira. We are going bold and backing Palace for a score draw.

FINAL SCORE: 2-2

BETTING ODDS

  • Home – 1/7
  • Draw – 7/1
  • Away – 16/1
  • Both teams to score – 11/10
