Ahead of the Eagles trip to Bramall Lane this weekend, TEB had a chat with the guys at SUFC Memories to get their views on the season, thoughts ahead of kick off and much more.
Q. What did you make of the game between the two sides at Selhurst earlier in the season?
It was a hugely disappointing afternoon for us – a ‘must win’ game at the time (as if they all weren’t!). We were incredibly lack-lustre and made the worst possible start just a few minutes in. Eze then meandered his way through our entire midfield and defence and finished brilliantly.
Q. How do you feel about the season and the Blades return to the Championship?
In a word – numb. It’s been so incredibly disheartening. The last time we were all at Bramall Lane we were on the verge of Europe – the next time we will be in the Championship. I’m looking forward to the Championship though if I’m honest – no VAR, more games and some proper away days.
Q. Having seen both Norwich City and Watford bounce back at the first attempt, do you think Sheffield United stand a a good chance of following suit?
It will depend entirely on who we bring in as manager – Heck is taking the reigns as it stands and should he get the role full time I really fear we could collapse as a club. If we retain the likes of O’Connell, Egan, Ramsdale etc. we’ve got as good a chance as any. It’s the top end of the pitch we can’t seem to get right.
Q. Was it the right decision to part company with Chris Wilder?
No – by far and away the worst decision the club will ever make. They have let the best thing that has ever happened to the club leave.
Q. How do you think the club will approach the summer transfer window?
Cautiously – we don’t have millions to play with so any signings will have to be bang on the money and hopefully not reliant on us selling players to get new faces in.
Q. Who has been the stand out player for the Blades so far this season?
David McGoldrick has been a stand out for us scoring eight goals so far – 110% every week and doesn’t deserve to be on the losing side every week.
Q. What do you make of Palace this season?
Another steady season in the Premier League – very hit and miss throughout the season, when all of your key players say yes on the day you can be as dangerous as most teams but the consistency isn’t there every week. Would swap positions in a heartbeat though!
Q. With the European Super League hitting the headlines in recent weeks, perhaps you could share your thoughts on the whole situation?
Disgusting – for those clubs to declare themselves as ‘Super Clubs’ is just plain wrong, glad its been squashed but those clubs should be punished for agreeing to it in the first place.
Q. Name one player from each team that you believe will be a threat to the opposition in this match.
If Zaha is on top form, it has to be him. Get him running at a tired, cobbled together backline I’m sure he’ll cause us problems. From our point of view, again, it would have to be McGoldrick, the only confident player on the park for us currently alongside Ramsdale.
Q. …and finallly, your all important prediction?
After all of that I have a strange feeling we’ll get a result – I’ll go 2-1 Blades.
