Eagles Hoping Lightning Strikes Twice At Old Trafford

In the first away trip of the season, Palace take on a United side playing their opening game of the new campaign following their extended season thanks to involvement in the latter stages of the Europa League.

5.30pm – live coverage on Sky Sports

LAST TIME

Who can forget the first win in forever at Old Trafford for the Eagles last season? Back in August 2019, Palace travelled to Manchester with very few backing them but a Jordan Ayew goal just after the half hour raised more than a few eyebrows. What looked to be a cruel equaliser from Daniel James late on for the hosts suggested the points were to be shared but Patrick van Aanholt arrived in injury time to score the precious winner.

ONE TO WATCH

DONNY VAN DE BEEK

FORMER CLUBS – Veensche Boys, Ajax

The 23-year-old is the latest addition to the United squad who joined the Premier League club for a fee of around £35million. The Dutch international played over 100 games for Ajax and has 12 international caps to his name. It will be interesting to see if he features in this game and how the Ajax academy product performs for United as the season progresses.

KEY CLASH

JAMES MCARTHUR v BRUNO FERNANDES

If Palace are to get anything out of this game, they will need to keep the impressive Portuguese midfieder quiet. It is no secret the impact he has had since arriving in the Premier League and McArthur will be part of the Palace midfield tasked with breaking up the hosts play as much as possible.

PREDICTION

There are a number of contributing factors to consider when thinking about what could happen in this match up. Palace have played two games of the season already (admittedly, it was a much changed team that exited the cup midweek), while this is the opening game for United. Will Palace make it three games unbeaten at Old Trafford? We think they just might, by taking a point.

FINAL SCORE: 1-1

  • Away – 8/1
  • Both teams to score – 19/20
