Ferguson First Through Door Ahead Of Important Transfer Window

The club have today confirmed that the first signing of the summer transfer window is 19-year-old defender Nathan Ferguson.

Back in January, a failed fitness test put paid to any hopes of him signing for the club at the eleventh hour. However, Roy Hodgson has finally got his man and perhaps on a better deal after Ferguson left West Bromwich Albion last month when his contract ended.

There is no doubting that this is a massively important window for the club with a combination of an ageing squad mixed with an extremely poor end to the season since Premier League survival was confirmed.

Hodgson and his backroom staff will have their work cut out but the addition of Ferguson is a very good sign even before the final game of the season has been played.

The Birmingham born defender joined the Baggies as an 8-year-old and worked his way through the youth system before making his full first team debut in a 2-1 win against Nottingham Forest in August 2019. He went on to make 21 appearances for the club and has scored one goal along with England youth caps at several levels.

Ferguson will provide much needed competition for the right-back postion and has been known to play in other areas if required.

Welcome to the club Nathan!
