ONE TO WATCH

NATHAN REDMOND

Former clubs – Birmingham City, Norwich City

The 25 year old winger scored against Chelsea at the weekend, just his second in the Premier League this season. For an attacking player that has just the one England cap to his name, he should really be contibuting more in terms of goals but with no assists so far this season in the league, his all round game has flattered to decieve. Having said that, his goal on Boxing Day could start him on a run. Interestingly, this is a player that Palace were interested in during his time at Birmingham before his move to Norwich City in 2013.

KEY CLASH

JORDAN AYEW v JAN BEDNAREK

This will be Ghana versus Poland and both will be quietly confident – Ayew after his excellent match winning goal against West Ham and Bednarek for playing his part in keeping a clean sheet at Stamford Bridge. It is likely that Ayew will start as the lone striker rather than out wide which is where his brilliant strke came from but he will prove a handful for the Polish international.

PRE-GAME STATS

  • Top scorers – Danny Ings (11), Jordan Ayew (5)
  • Palace have won 2 of the last 6 in this fixture
  • Top assisters – Sofiane Boufal (2), James McArthur (2)
  • Palace have failed to score in just 1 of the last 6 of this fixture
  • Top passers – Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (1014), Luka Milivojevic (883)
  • Top tacklers – Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (47), Oriol Romeu (44)

PREDICTION

The hosts have pulled themselves out of the bottom three in recent weeks after winning some games against teams in and around them which they followed up with an impressive win at Chelsea. They will be a tough proposition especially with confidence sky high but such a fixture may just suit the Eagles who love to play on the counter away from home. A point would probably suit both sides right now and is more likely to be the case after the exertions of the last few days.

Final score: 2-2 (Zaha, Ayew)

OPPOSITION VIEW

It has been a while since we have had a good chinwag with our pals at St Mary’s Musings so we took the opportunity to find out how life is treating them down on the South Coast.

BETTING ODDS

  • Home – 10/11
  • Draw – 5/2
  • Away – 11/4
  • Both teams to score – 20/23
