ONE TO WATCH
MOISE KEAN
Former clubs – Asti, Torino, Juventus, Verona (loan)
The 19 year old striker joined Everton this month from Italian giants Juventus, signing a five year contract at Goodison Park. The deal cost the Merseyside club £25million which could rise to £27.5million.
Kean made his professional debut for Juve in 2016 and went on to score 7 goals in 16 games. He had a loan spell at Verona during the 2017/18 season but has found game time in Turin hard to come by. After representing Italy at several youth levels, he has made three full international appearances, the first against the United States in November 2018.
KEY CLASH
LUKA MILIVOJEVIC v ANDRE GOMES
The battle in the middle of the park is likely to be extremely important in this match up, and the performance of these two internationals will be one to look out for.
PRE-GAME STATS
- Palace go into the game unbeaten in 4 (3 wins and a draw) Premier League games and will be keen on making it 5.
- Everton have kept a clean sheet in 6 of their last 7 away games against Palace in all competitions.
- Palace have been level at both half time and full time in 5 of the last 7 home games against Everton in all competitions.
- Everton are unbeaten in their last 9 games against Palace in all competitions.
PREDICTION
Both teams will be chomping at the bit to get going but more importantly, the sole aim will be to get a result in this first game of the Premier League season. The two clubs have been active as the transfer window wound down this week and will be ready to focus on the job at hand. What will be key is integrating the new players and it will be interesting to see if any new signings make a start.
After a stressful week for fans, let alone anyone at the club, it will be deemed a small victory by Palace who retained the services of Wilfried Zaha. The integral part to this Palace side is likely to miss out on this fixture having only returned to training on Monday the exertions of the AFCON in the summer.
Roy Hodgson will not have a lot of time to assess new additions Gary Cahill, Victor Camarasa and James McCarthy but a couple of them are likely to play some part in the game, particularly with Tomkins and Zaha both expected to miss out.
The visitors bring an abundance of talent with them for this fixture and will once again prove hard to beat, but the Eagles are equally tough to break down so this could well be a stalemate which may suit both teams.
Final score: 1-1 (Benteke, Richarlison)
