Premier League Preview – Chelsea

Another Sunday, another Palace game. For the third week in succession, the Eagles are the focus of the live television cameras, this time at Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea.

After a disappointing cup exit at Middlesbrough in midweek, Roy Hodgson will be keen to see his side bounce back in this London derby.

Chelsea managed to get themselves through a tricky home tie against Derby County and will now be concentrating on the visit of Palace in an effort to keep up with Manchester City and Liverpool.

The Eagles can take some solace in the fact that the Championship side threatened the hosts, running them close for a place in the last eight of the Carabao Cup. However, a striker has yet to score for Palace in the Premier League this season and two of them failed again in midweek.

This Palace side are crying out for a goalscorer, so much so that many fans are keen to see the return of Christian Benteke or Connor Wickham considering Jordan Ayew and Alexander Sorloth have fired blanks. Having said that, the Ghanaian and Norwegian performed admirably against Arsenal.

The point gained last weekend takes the pressure off a little but does show that Palace are often at their best when they are the underdogs.

TEAM NEWS

CRYSTAL PALACE – Christian Benteke and Joel Ward continue to miss out through injury while Scott Dann is finding his fitness after a long injury lay off.

ONE TO WATCH

JORGE LUIZ FRELLO FILHO

Former clubs – Verona, Sambonifacese (loan), Napoli

The Brazilian born midfielder joined Chelsea for £50million in the summer, a deal that could rise even higher with add-ons. His move to London was hot on the heels of former Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri after over four years with the Naples club and in excess of over a century of appearances. Before that, Jorginho was at Verona where he started his career and for whom he made his professional debut in 2010. A loan spell at Serie D side Sambonifacese pretty much got his career underway. The Italian international made his debut in 2016 who he chose to play for as he holds both Brazilian and Italian citizenship.

PREDICTION

Palace will be buoyed by their point against Arsenal last weekend and proved that when up against it, they pull something out of the bag. Recent encounters against the Blues have gone either way and this weekend could be similar particularly with the hosts making a trip to play BATE Borisov in the Europa League midweek. TEB are boldly going to predict a second consecutive score draw when not many other give us much of a hope: 1-1
