Palace have announced the signing of Dutchman Timothy Fosu-Mensah from Manchester United.
The season long loan deal for the 19 year old was finally revealed after days of speculation online and the addition of Fosu-Mensah is Frank de Boer’s third signing of the summer with little doubt the pacey player will not be the last through the door.
Born in Amsterdam, Fosu-Mensah has made twenty-one appearances for United since joining from Ajax where he worked with de Boer in the youth academy. He never made a first team appearance for the Dutch club after joining from AVV Zeeburgia in 2006.
Having represented the Netherlands several times at youth level, he joins Palace at a critical point in his career and will be looking to impress both de Boer and United boss Jose Mourinho who will be keen to learn of his progress. He has been handed the number twenty-four shirt for his time at Selhurst Park and can play in a variety of positions across the backline and midfield.
Talking to the official Palace website, Timothy is pleased to work with de Boer again;
‘The manager spoke to me about coming down to join Palace and it was clear that he wanted me to be part of his squad which as a player gives you a great feeling straight away. I must now repay that back by putting in some good performances for the club.’
Palace boss de Boer is rightly happy to be working with his former player once again;
‘He is a player who has great pace and incredible physical ability. You need players with strength and speed and he can also play in midfield. I see him in our system as a right centre back but he can also play full back.’
Welcome to Palace Timothy!
