Loan Deal For Loftus-Cheek Confirmed
Palace have announced the signing of Chelsea and England Under 21 midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek on a season long loan deal.
The 22 year old has made over thirty appearances for the Stamford Bridge side and becomes Frank de Boer’s first signing since becoming boss of the Eagles.
Born in Lewisham, Loftus-Cheek joined Chelsea in 2004 and has only ever played for the Blues. This move is his first experience of football at another club.
The half-brother of former professional footballers Carl and Leon Cort has represented England at Under 16, Under 17, Under 19 and Under 21 levels. He was captain of the Under 18s at Chelsea that won the FA Youth Cup in the 2013/14 season and was a regular in the Under 21 Premier League winning side.
“Palace have a very strong team and I’d like to be a part of that this season. I live not too far away, I was born in Lewisham and Palace are a good club.” – Loftus-Cheek talking to BBC Sport.
On hearing the news we had chat with our friends at popular Chelsea fan group ‘Chelsea Stats’ who gave us their view on the loan signing;
“Ruben has shown plenty of potential at youth level for both Chelsea and England but what he has lacked is serious competitive minutes for his age. The midfielder was fast tracked into the first team by Jose Mourinho when others were arguably better or more experienced which was probably due to his build. This season is massive for him to prove he is good enough given a long run of games”.
Welcome to Palace Ruben!
