This Sunday, a whole host of former professionals and stars from the entertainment world descend on Lingfield to take part in a charity match in aid of the MS Society.
There is plenty of interest for Palace fans if any was needed as Steve Kember manages one of the teams while Neil Shipperley, Simon Osborn and Gareth Graham will be taking part.
Lining up alongside the former Eagles are Sky Sports pundit and former England midfielder Jamie Redknapp, singer Peter Andre, former Blackburn and Fulham defender Ian Pearce and former Brighton and Reading striker Nicky Forster. A few mystery former professionals and celebrities are also confirmed for the afternoon.
Organiser Dan Burgess told The Meridian Sports Show on Tuesday evening why the match is taking place;
‘After a tough year of my girlfriend Amy being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS), I decided to arrange this charity match to not only raise money but also to raise awareness of a life-changing condition.
This is something not a lot of people are aware of and need to be. MS can not only affect the lives of the people who have it but also the families, friends and loved ones. General day to day tasks become increasingly challenging in time.
We will have plenty of celebrities and former professional footballers taking part against a side I have put together of friends and family. We have been very lucky to be allowed to use and play against Lingfield Football Club. The reaction by all who I have been in contact with about this event has been fantastic so I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved and taking their time to attend.’
Over 100,000 of us in the UK have MS. It’s unpredictable and different for everyone. The MS Society understand what life’s like with MS and are researching, writing, campaigning and fighting. Find out more about the charity and what they do, head over to their official website.
While the main attraction is the match itself, there will be plenty going on pitch side including a raffle (£1 a strip), auction (hosted by Linda Lambert of Storage Hunters UK fame), bouncy castle, face painting, fire engine and St John’s Ambulance will be in attendance.
There will also be live commentary, interviews and photographs with the players.
The match takes place at Lingfield Football Club, The Sports Pavilion, Godstone Road, Lingfield, Surrey, RH7 6BT. Kick off is 2.30pm with gates opening at 1pm. Entry is £2 for adults, kids under 16 are free but donations welcome. The bar will be open serving a variety of drinks as well as catering on site for the duration of the afternoon including a pie and mash van.
If you cannot get to the game and would like to donate, text MSFC71 £5 to 70070 or go to the Just Giving page.
