Fantasy Preview – Match Week 21

It is time to get back in the saddle after a busy Christmas schedule to share with all your fantasy managers my tips for the up and coming Premier League weekend. So, here goes …

Olivier Giroud – Forward, Arsenal, 8.6

I honestly cannot believe that I am buying on Giroud, again, but here we are. He has been on fire of late, notching three goals and two assists since earning his starting spot back three weeks ago. He’s actually still top ten in goals despite the fact that he’s 43rd in minutes played among forwards. A match up against Swansea City’s league worst defence makes Giroud a fantastic option this week.

Dele Alli – Midfielder, Tottenham Hotspur, 8.5

He went on a tear over the holiday period and just because you are late to the party does not mean you are not invited. Dele is averaging 11.2 points a game over the last five matches and, while the goals are flowing, he is actually under-performing in chances created meaning there is still upside long term.

Philippe Coutinho – Midfielder, Liverpool, 8.2

I’m not buying in yet but, considering how he looked against Southampton midweek, there is definitely a case to be made for bringing him in now. Despite his injury layoff, Coutinho is still top ten in points per match and at 8.2 he is a steal. His price will likely skyrocket before next week’s match against Hull City so if you want him at this low, low price you may need to act fast!

Junior Stanislas – Midfielder, Bournemouth, 5.2

My buddy Rob Langevin of Razzball fame has been high on Stanislas for a while and I have hopped on the bandwagon for now. At first, his assists in the last two games had my curiosity but, now with this match up against Hull, he has my attention. At 5.2 he is a perfect fifth midfielder that you can rotate with your third forward based on match ups.

Fabio – Defender, Middlesbrough, 4.4

I have been eyeing Fabio for a while and this is the week I take the plunge. He led all defenders in crosses last week (9) and while Boro have plenty of issues in attack, their defence is actually the sixth best in the league. Their coming match ups are favourable with three bottom ten defences in the next five matches.

Dimitri Payet – Midfielder, West Ham, 9.1

Despite some good real life performances, the fantasy points just have not been coming for Payet. Now, with manager Slaven Bilic confirming that Payet is refusing to play for the club, it’s time to drop last year’s fantasy star.

Sadio Mane/Wilfried Zaha – Midfielders, Liverpool/Crystal Palace

Just a reminder in case you somehow did not know that they are both unavailable as they take part in the African Cup of Nations.

Divock Origi – Forward, Liverpool, 6.7

He has cooled quickly, having now blanked in four of the last five matches. With Sadio Mane out for the better part of a month it’s unclear how Liverpool will shift things around but I would not be surprised if Origi ends up filling the void on the right wing. The match up against Manchester United is not promising either as Liverpool have failed to score in three of their last five Premier League meetings against their old rivals.

Cedric Soares – Defender, Southampton, 4.8

I was so high on Southampton at the start of December, but they have been truly awful in defence of late averaging two conceded goals per match over their last five. Add that to the fact that Cedric randomly gets dropped from time to time and he looks just about unownable.

Etienne Capoue – Midfielder, Watford, 4.8

Capoue has scored just once in the last ten matches and Watford have not kept a clean sheet in that period. He is still the third most owned midfielder… and he should not be.
