Fantasy Preview – Match Week 10

I have seen several articles this week saying you should sell Manchester City’s Argentine striker Sergio Aguero.

Admittedly his price is high but, as long time readers of this article will know, I am not sure I will ever be able to advise selling Aguero ever again! For those that are a bit newer to my writing I, uh, definitely did not advise people to drop Aguero the week he put up a fiver on Newcastle. Cough.

Anyway, we all know the Argentine is a home run hitter and some weeks it doesn’t pay off, but it will more often than not. Now that I have brought up probably the worst call of my fantasy career, let’s jump into the players you should buy and sell for MW10.

BUY

Troy Deeney – Forward, Watford, 7.1

His two goals in five is nothing to write home about, but at this point it’s a good idea to start anyone playing against Hull’s league worst defence. They have conceded just about four goals per game over their last five matches and have shown little to convince that that is about to change.

Dusan Tadic – Midfielder, Southampton, 7.2

He currently ranks in the top ten in shots on target, chances created, and successful crosses. While impressive, those statistics do not line up with the fact that he only has one goal and one assist thus far. Tadic should see a spike in productivity when, not if, his actual performances and fantasy performances get back to normal. Even better is the fact that Southampton will face just two top ten defences in 2016.

Erik Lamela – Midfielder, Tottenham Hotspur, 6.6

I’m still holding out hope on Lamela. He currently leads Tottenham in key passes over Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli and will get handed guaranteed playing time now that Moussa Sissoko has been charged with violent conduct. This may seem a strange call as Spurs face Leicester, but the title-holders defence has been awful away from home with thirteen goals conceded (worst in the league).

Roberto Firmino – Midfielder, Liverpool, 8.5

Welcome back to your weekly Liverpool update. I personally added Firmino to my team this week, but continue to feel free to play or add whichever Liverpool midfielder you please! The match-ups are still very kind through Christmas and, short term, they face a Crystal Palace side who have yet to keep a clean sheet this season.

Erik Pieters – Defender, Stoke City, 4.4

The Stoke defence is slowly improving after a disastrous start to the season. While never a flashy option Pieters could have a run of solid games here as he faces just one top ten attack in their next five matches. The potential return of Jack Butland in goal could see this Stoke defence find it’s way back to fantasy relevance.

SELL

Alvaro Negredo – Forward, Middlesbrough, 6.4

Negredo has been a fantasy dud as of late yet is still nearly 15% owned. He only has three shots on target in his last five matches and I would not be surprised if he was benched against Bournemouth who are tied for fourth in clean sheets this season.

Etienne Capoue – Midfielder, Watford, 5.7

Capoue is still the second highest owned player in the official game despite the the fact that he’s done nothing of note four of the last five weeks. Over that period he has just one shot on target and four shots on target so his high ownership, performances, and not exactly low price are all reasons to sell your shares in the Frenchman.

Seamus Coleman – Defender, Everton, 5.5

I was really excited about Coleman a few weeks back, but all of a sudden Everton are doing their best Tottenham impersonation by continually allowing just one goal, losing their clean sheets. This week he faces West Ham United who have failed to score just once this season, so don’t expect clean sheet points this week.

Robert Snodgrass – Midfielder, Hull City, 5.7

He and Hull looked excellent at the start of the season, but things have gone south fast. Even if Snodgrass was not injured I would recommend dropping him, and now he is injured. Sell him and forget him.

Jermain Defoe – Forward, Sunderland, 7.3

Want to hear some not fun facts? Sunderland are currently last in goals scored, have failed to score in the most games (4), and are third worst in chances created this season. Now they head up against Arsenal’s top five ranked defence? Yeah, no thanks.
